Teachers Get Real-World Training

The Shelby County Career Corps provides paid internships to Shelby County K-12 educators who wish to learn more about the variety of career pathways that exist locally for students. It also provides a correlation between subject matter taught and the today’s workplace by placing them with business and industry hosts. This immersive experience gives educators an opportunity to better understand the workplace for which they are preparing students. This program is sponsored by 58 Inc., Shelby County's economic development corporation, and the Shelby County Chamber.

Educators interact directly with industry and business leaders to discuss workplace skills, training and career ladders that exist in the workplace. They also experience work-related examples to enhance classroom instruction, student learning and career readiness. Educators are deliberately matched with a company based on grade taught and subject matter.
