Everett Holle Obituary
Everett Hughes Holle, passed away on July 22, 2017, quietly and peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, following a brief illness. Everett is predeceased by his father and mother, Fred C. and Evelyn Hughes Holle, and brother, Austin Holle. He is survived by a host of loving cousins, close friends and a legacy that will remain unmatched. Everett graduated from the University of Alabama in 1950.
From 1950-1991, he was associated with Channel 13, WVTM-TV in Birmingham, ultimately being named Assistant General Manager of the organization. In 2015, Everett was inducted into the University of Alabama's College of Communication and Information Sciences Hall of Fame. Everett's military career began in 1950, with active duty service as a radio/television officer. Following his active duty commitment, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves, and was assigned to the 87th Maneuver Area Command, retiring from that organization in 1985 as a Brigadier General.
Throughout his lifetime Everett took deep interest in civic matters, serving on a number of boards, including the Girl Scouts, The Birmingham Symphony, American Cancer Society, The United Way, Salvation Army, WBHM, and the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also served on the boards of the Better Business Bureau and Junior Achievement. Everett's association with Troop 96, Boy Scouts of America, spanned 60+ years. During that time, approximately 150 young men earned Eagle Scout rank, all of whom can say that Everett played an influential role in their achievements as scouts. Through his involvement with the Boy Scouts, Everett backpacked and hiked the Smoky and Sierra Nevada Mountains, canoed in Algonquin Park, Ontario and sailed the Caribbean. Everett was a man like few others. He was a brother, father and friend to so many.
He will be sorely missed by all.
